Is your Friedrich Kühl window air conditioner recalled?

Check the model and serial number, stop using a recalled unit, and contact Friedrich for the next step.

Check the recall before using the unit

Stop using a recalled Friedrich Kühl Q or Kühl S window air conditioner immediately. The September 17, 2026 CPSC notice says a control board inside the motor can fail and create a fire and burn hazard. Friedrich must confirm whether your particular unit is included.

How to check your model and serial number

Friedrich places the model and serial details behind the front panel. Use the identification photos on Friedrich's recall page to locate the rating plate and compare both numbers. The manufacturer lists these ranges:

Friedrich recall eligibility ranges, checked September 29, 2026
ModelSerial range
KCVQ08B10AD122600351 to D122600670
KHVQ10B11AD112600003 to D112602227
KCVS08B10AD052601083 to D052601332
KCVS12B10AD062600009 to D062600550
KCVS12B30AD062600552 to D062600800
KCVS16B30AD062600801 to D062600992

A matching range is a reason to contact Friedrich, not a final eligibility decision. The company says some units within these ranges have unaffected motors.

Who handles the refund or replacement?

Have your serial number ready and call Friedrich at 800-541-6645. CPSC lists telephone hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Central, Monday through Friday.

Once eligibility is confirmed, Friedrich sends the remedy instructions. Its recall page specifies a refund for affected KHVQ10B11A units and a free replacement for the other affected models.
